Training
A place for all seasons
Ermyn Lodge, at the heart of the world-famous Epsom racing and training centre, has been responsible for winners on the flat and over jumps for more than 70 years, with the 1971 Grand National hero Specify its highest profile graduate. However that history dates from a time when there were two distinct seasons and flat racing went into hibernation from the beginning of November until the following March. Times have changed and Ermyn Lodge has changed with them.
The emergence of artificial surfaces means that flat racing goes on all year round. Ermyn Lodge has truly become a place for all seasons, catering for every type of horse, from early two-year-olds to experienced hurdlers and chasers.
The old training yard has been completely refurbished since 2006. 22 of the 39 boxes look out onto the circular walkway where the horses get ready to make their way to the outstanding Epsom racecourse gallops. We now have our own straight 5 furlong polytrack gallop (uphill).
Within the training facility there are paddocks for relaxation and a horsewalker for extra exercise.
We pride ourselves on having qualified, dedicated staff led by Pat Phelan and we call on professional jockeys like John Egan, Sean Houllihan our own Paddy Braddy and Sophie Ralston for light weights.
In addition to our facilities of a lunging ring, ménage and starting stalls we have expanded to include a five-furlong up-hill polytrack gallop, a 250-metre circular hacking sand track and four new 10-acre paddocks, post and railed.
